Moments in Naval Dance History

Cape St. Vincent Freestyle Dance Finals

February 14th, 1797

New boy Commodore Horatio Nelson delights the panel of judges with an unorthadox leap from line with spinning cross-step, and blocks the Spanish reigning champions whose attempts to sway the judges with a frantic flamenco frankly looks chaotic and fails to impress.

Meanwhile, Rear-Admiral Sir Thomas Trourbridge performs a "weather-guage" moonwalk, with an early starboard side-step to lee; and Captain Cuthbert Collingwood spins on his head during his famous breakdance routine (not shown).

Choreographer since 1795, Admiral of the Fleet Sir John Jervis comments that Young Nelson, though something of a wildcard, is likely to go on to greater things.
